From ancient to medieval times, the end of the "Mullein" (Verbascum Thapsus) plant stalks were used to light gatherings, funerals and ceremonies, which is how they became associated with the spirit realm.

These torches have many names including Mullein Torch, Witches' Candle, Jupiter's Rod, Hag’s Taper, King’s Candle, the Candlewick Plant and more.

Mullein energy serves as a candle in the night to guide us through darkness and shadows. This makes tut ideal for solstice and Yule rituals, ancestral work, and shadow work. Mullein also lights up our inner world to help us illuminate and process grief and sadness. These emotions are believed to be held in the lungs. Burning a mullein torch is often used with the intent of clearing away negative energy, purifying the air, thinning the veil between dimensions, and bringing spiritual protection.

By now we all know the problems with white sage use. These beautiful plants are being over-harvested and, as a result, are now endangered.
